AIoT is a smart acronym used to represent the integration of IoT artificial intelligence, big data and 5G networks with the Internet of things. AIoT has gained a lot of momentum in recent times and is being called the “internet revolution 4.0”. As we know, IoT devices use internet networking to collect and exchange information about our online activities. Every day, they generate 1 billion GB of data. Statistics show that by 2025, we would have 55 billion IoT-connected devices globally. It’s only natural that as these devices grow in numbers, so will their data flow. That’s where AI steps in — lending its learning capabilities to the connectivity of the IoT.

IoT IS EMPOWERED BY THESE 3 EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES:

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI): The simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
  2. 5G Networks: Fifth-generation mobile networks with high-speed, near-zero lags, for facilitating real-time data processing.
  3. Big Data Analytics: Enormous volumes of data being processed from various internet-enabled devices/sensors.

Artificial intelligence, especially its allied concepts like deep learning and machine learning is crucial for streamlining operations. Globally, among companies that are investing in AIoT, the majority of them are in the retail and automobile sector.

Also, with the boom of big data and cloud computing, the ability to generate, store, and process data has increased rapidly. This results in large-scale data analytics which has led to the integration of AI into IoT to fully automate integral business procedures for better analysis and minimal mistakes.

Some Common Applications of AIoT are:

Smart homes

Smart homes have grown more than just having Alexa or Google dots, a smart home is now capable of responding to many more requests put in by homeowners. From appliances, lighting, electronic devices to utility management and billing, learning a homeowner’s habits and developing automated “support is what AIoT helps with.

Smart Cities

Smart cities and urban globalization have become crucial to match up with the rise in population in modern cities. Problems like improper infrastructure, traditional energy systems, poor asset management and inaccurate data inputs can be cured by leveraging AIoT ecosystems. Smart city innovations are key, with investments going towards improving public safety, transport, and energy efficiency.

Smart Industries

Industries and manufacturers rely on smart technologies heavily, to reduce human error and to be more efficient. From real-time data analytics to solutions for every step of the supply chain, interconnected smart devices help prevent costly errors in industrial spaces. In fact, estimates show that over 80% of enterprise IoT projects will incorporate AI by 2023.

In conclusion, the applications of AIoT influence industries to integrate large-scale systems with various modern solutions. Moreover, it can combine machine learning with IoT and the system to develop “learning machines”.
